Study Business Online – Some of the Best Available Courses

Mohamed Hesham

Many people decide to start their own business with just their own knowledge, without learning or studying entrepreneurship. This can be fine and they can succeed; however, it is better to have a good knowledge about business; know how to plan your startup, and market your products; and know how to make risk management in order to ensure the success of your business.

Most of the business ideas nowadays require a lot of money to be built, so without well planning, you may lose all your capital. Consequently, it is better to study about entrepreneurship before taking the step of launching your start up to raise the probability of your success. You do not have to pursue a bachelor degree, though it will be better, but at least you should take a short or medium period course to acquire the basic knowledge. If you study business online, this may be so useful too.

In this post, we will review some good quality online entrepreneurship learning programs, which can be very helpful to people who decided to launch their own business.

This program is developed by some best professors of Wharton School, which is the business school of the University of Pennsylvania (the 19th best university in the world – according to top universities). It consists of 5 courses. It is recommended to study them all in order; nevertheless, you can choose to study some of them only.

The program covers all the process of creating a business including:

  • Developing your idea to become an applicable business opportunity;
  • The process of launching the startup; choosing your team and how to manage them;
  • The growth strategies;
  • How to market your business and how to reach and build a relationship with your customers;
  • Finding sources to finance your project.

Finally, there is the Capstone project course, in which you will make the pitch deck and finalize the business plan of your project, then it will be evaluated and top scoring ones will be introduced to the business firms in Wharton’s network.

The special thing about this course is that it has excellent reviews from the former students, which means it is of a very high quality.

Program Name: How to Start Your Own Business Specialization

Provider: Coursera

Duration: 29 Weeks

Price: $426

Created by: Michigan State University

Rating: 4 / 5

This program is also provided by Coursera. It is created by Michigan State University (has the ranking 149 on the world).

The program nearly covers the same topics as the previous one, but there is something different is that the first two courses focus on developing an entrepreneurial mindset; this will be so useful for you if you feel that you need to diverge your mind to think like the way of an entrepreneur.

Also, what is good about this program is that it is cheaper than the previous one. However, there are some reviews from the previous students that have some complaints about the course material and the communication with the instructors, but the overall review of the students is good.

Note: If you can not afford the courses, Coursera offers financial aid for students who qualify. This may be a great opportunity! Moreover, anybody can access the courses materials except the graded assignments, exams, and projects; but of course you will not be certified unless you pay the fees.

Program Name: Intro to Entrepreneurship: Get started as an Entrepreneur

Provider: Udemy

The provider of this course is Udemy. It was founded in 2010; located in San Fransisco, USA, they have more than 20 million students and more than 65,000 courses taught by expert instructors in many fields.

Unlike Coursera, the courses in Udemy do not have a specific duration, and they are way shorter. You just buy the course materials, and you can access them at any time you like, so this is an asset for people who can not commit to lectures and assignments with specified times.

This course material duration is about 14 hours, with a lifetime access, so you do not have to finish them at a specific period.

Also, a different thing in Udemy is that the courses are more industrial than academic, as the courses are usually created by people who have experience in industry not university professors like Coursera.

@ Evan Kimbrell

The instructor of this course is Evan Kimbrell, one of the best instructors in Udemy. He is the founder of Sprintkick – one of the most popular web and mobile app design companies in USA. Moreover, he was a co-founder of an educational software startup called ScholarPRO. Consequently, he has a huge experience in launching and managing business.

The course content focuses on teaching the core concepts of entrepreneurship, developing an entrepreneurial mindset, comparing between different business styles, choosing and validating a business idea, finding ways for fundraising, and developing a business model.

The price of this course is not constant, as in most of the time you will find discounts on Udemy courses that can reach more than 80%, this gives an impression that Udemy courses are nearly free! The students reviews of this course are very good with a rating of 4.6/5.

Program Name: The Essential Guide to Entrepreneurship by Guy Kawasaki

Provider: Udemy

@ Guy Kawasaki – the former Apple chief evangelist

This program is also provided by Udemy. It is created by Guy Kawasaki, the formal chief evangelist of Apple, and the current chief evangelist of Canva – the popular graphic design tool. He was also the advisor of the Motorola business unit of Google.

The course content delivers the concepts of entrepreneurship, how to launch your startup, fundraising your project, building a team with the required skills, utilizing the social media in the right way, and it also covers the concept of evangelism and how to make your customers promote your products by the word of mouth, without making any efforts in that.

Like all Udemy courses, there is no time limit to finish this course, and the materials have a lifetime access.

What is special in this course is that there is a part in which the instructor will answer all the student’s questions in the social media in an FAQ section.

Also, like most of Udemy courses, the price for this one is not constant. You have to check the website, as you may find a good discount there. The reviews of the students about this course are very good with a rating of 4.6/5.

  3. Interesting article. It sounds like this course would provide a good basic overview of how to go about pursuing a startup idea, product or service. Have you done the training yourself? If so, would you describe the course as a good overview, or quite specific? Cheers, Karen

    • Glad that you liked the article. The first two programs – provided by Coursera – are detailed and thorough, as they have a long duration and a project at the end of each program. However, the two other courses – provided by Udemy – are less detailed, but they have another advantage is that they are created by two persons who have a great practical experience in business.
